Relationship Therapy

When we feel connected, our closest relationships can be the source of some of the greatest joy, meaning and fulfillment in our lives. When disconnected or in a conflict cycle, they can also be the cause of some of the greatest suffering and pain. Often partners care deeply about one another and utilize different strategies to protect themselves and the relationship. Relationship therapy supports relationships with moving through cycles of disconnection, conflict and unresolved hurt or pain to support deeper understanding, fulfillment and connection for all partners involved.

Queer and Non-Monogamous Relationships

Relationships that are build outside of cisgender, heterosexual and monogamous norms face increasing pressure due to navigating systems that weren’t built for them in mind. This might look like navigating opening a relationship, figuring out what relationship structure works best for you and your partner or partner(s), navigating gender exploration or transition, family rejection or lack of community acceptance. All of this impacts how we show up inside of our most intimate bonds. Relationship therapy can support you with naming and acknowledging minority stressors, working through the emotions that arise due to these increased pressures and building a relationship that is catered to the needs of you and your partner.

What to Expect in Relationship Therapy

Couples therapy is about looking at the existing patterns between partners and not about placing blame on one person. Sessions involve identifying goals for therapy and then working towards these goals as a team. We may work to slow down conflict or defensive responses to look at the vulnerable emotions underneath. We may also explore how childhood and past relationship experiences impact current relationship dynamics. As a couples therapist, I support partners with speaking directly to one another to strengthen the connection, attunement and support repair.
